Janet Tonkins and her husband got their start in real estate through their personal experience of purchasing their first house in 1987. With this one purchase, they learned how to leverage their home to create passive income and a steady stream of cash flow. After a defining moment of taking ten days off work to be with their son, who was in a coma, and being reprimanded upon returning to work, Janet realized she needed to take control of her life and work for herself to create a life of autonomy and freedom. This led her to read self-help and financial books and discover that owning assets and/or a business was the way to wealth. Armed with years of trial and error, Janet and her husband now have a portfolio of over 100 properties in New Jersey, Maryland, and Georgia. They buy and hold most of their real estate to create generational wealth and are also involved in teaching, mentoring, coaching, and creating classes on how to buy rental properties.
